It has now been revealed what really happened with Victor Munoz, Newcastle United and Liverpool.

The 22-year-old Osasuna winger had for the past week reportedly set to move to St James’ Park.

Only for late Wednesday the news coming that instead the Spanish winger is going to Anfield.

Keith Downie covers Newcastle United for Sky Sports and he has revealed what he’s discovered regarding what went on.

The man from Sky Sports revealing that Newcastle United had a fee of £29m (+£4.3m) accepted by Osasuna and that the player had agreed personal terms and told NUFC that he wanted to sign. Agent fees had also been agreed.

Keith Downie adding that: “Newcastle had the wheels in motion for a medical over in the US and were on the verge of completing a deal. But they were instructed to wait over the last 24 hours by the player’s representatives, and Liverpool swooped.”

Many Newcastle United fans having automatically seen this as a case of failings by those at NUFC as to why a Victor Munoz hadn’t been successfully completed.

The Sky Sports reporter also revealing: “Liverpool had always been at the table for Victor Munoz so they didn’t come in last minute, but agreed £34.5m release clause (two instalments) and Munoz chose Anfield.”

Downie concluding with: “Newcastle United now trying to get to the bottom of what happened in the last 24 hours but there was always top competition for the winger last few weeks.”
