Newcastle United are now experiencing a huge change.
This summer 2026 transfer window making that very public.
As well as older players such as Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth leaving as their contracts ended on 30 June 2026, established star key players Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali sold for combined transfer deals of around £170m.
Whereas when it comes to incoming, so far we have seen four new signings.
A trio of 20-year-olds in the form of Bazoumana Toure, Ewen Jaouen and Aladji Bamba arriving, plus 18 year-old Sean Steur.
Newcastle United chief Eddie Howe has been talking about the seismic shift at the club: “Obviously due to financial constraints we are going to sort of a different phase of our recruitment, going very young.”
The youngest (so far!) of all Newcastle’s summer signings is Sean Steur and he is the only one of the quartet who started against Gateshead. Steur only turned 18 in January but along with Lewis Hall, he was one of the clear two best players on the pitch on Saturday.
Eddie Howe speaking to official NUFC media: “I thought Sean Steur did really well. He was able to play a bit longer because he has trained for longer, he came back earlier with Ajax. I thought he showed a lot of his qualities, very good on the ball, very progressive, very creative as well, even from a deeper position. I thought he showed maturity as well and a little bite out of possession, which we are going to need and he is going to need in the Premier League. There are things to work on in his game, especially physically, he needs time to develop. So I would also urge caution with him, I don’t want to hype him too much, but he looks a really good talent.”

Club interviewer asks: “One of four new faces so far, obviously a couple of exits as well, but what have you made of the summer business so far?”
Eddie Howe: “Losing Sandro [Tonali] and Anthony [Gordon] is tough for us, the staff, the players, the supporters, because we want to keep our best players, we want to ideally grow the team. So we have taken a hit there.”
Eddie Howe going on to say: “We are trying to then replace. Obviously due to financial constraints we are going to sort of a different phase of our recruitment, going very young. And those young players really need support, they need time to develop their skills. But I think individually they are all exciting talents, I think they have great futures ahead of them, but we just need to be calm with them.”
