It is clear that the Newcastle United transfer policy has shifted significantly this summer, with a focus on signing young, talented players and developing them into top stars.
This was likely one of the reasons that manager Eddie Howe decided to call it quits as manager after five hugely successful years in the job.
Nobody is denying this new policy represents a huge gamble.
But at least the club has a clear direction in the transfer market, whether as fans we like it or not.
The key thing when having a policy like this is that you still litter the squad with players with the right experience.
Which is why if I was the new Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle, I would be asking my new ownership to bring Ivan Toney with him from Al Ahli.
Toney has been an absolutely key player for Jaissle over the last two years as his side won two Asian Champions Leagues and one Saudi Super Cup, scoring 72 goals in 93 appearances.
He is also a proven Premier League performer, scoring 36 goals in 83 games for Brentford before his big money move to Saudi Arabia.
In fact Toney’s form has been so good it resulted in an England call up for Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad that finished third this summer.
Ivan Toney would represent an excellent signing for Newcastle United and their new manager. He fills a problem position for the club. William Osula had a brilliant finish to the season but is still very raw, while Nick Woltemade and Yoanne Wissa both found goals extremely hard to come by during their first season on Tyneside.
His signing would also give Matthias Jaissle a vital ally in a dressing room still reeling from a summer which has seen the club sell three of its most important players and lose Eddie Howe after nearly five years in charge.
