With the Premier League kicking off in 12 days time for NUFC, Matthias Jaissle talking about the challenges ahead.
Newcastle United play Everton at Murrayfield on Wednesday, then have two friendlies at home on the weekend.
Matthias Jaissle meeting the media on the eve of that friendly in Edinburgh.
Matthias Jaissle on his approach: “Front-footed, intense, aggressive and, of course, successful. The approach we have as a coaching team, and the identity of Newcastle is famed for, it’s so linked so close together, which is a perfect fit in my eyes. And that’s going to be exciting. You need to have a clear goal of where you want to go to and that starts from the management and board. If we have that synergy with the players, fans and staff, I’m pretty sure it will be a successful story but we need time.”
United boss Matthias Jaissle: “The lads have had two days off, so I used the chance to get to know the training ground, settle in there and the city a bit. Today was the first training session in Newcastle. It was really impressive to see the facilities. Now I’m finally on the ground in Newcastle, I’m really excited.”
Matthias Jaissle on the pre-season training camp in La Manga: “You have the group altogether, no distractions, so that is good in the beginning but I’m also really happy to be home in Newcastle. The focus is only now on the day-to-day basis. We want to develop and improve with a short amount of time. We want use every minute of every day. It is a big challenge when there’s a transitional period but it’s not time to complain. It doesn’t makes sense to see the negative things. We want to see the change in that situation and that’s our approach from day one. We’re here to do our best job. We want to support the players. There will be adjustments to see in the upcoming weeks but, for now, let’s only focus on the daily work and the work we can influence.”
Matthias Jaissle talking about St. James’ Park: “I had a tour two days ago and [it’s] an amazing stadium. I can’t wait to see the stadium full with our own crowd. That’s already a good set-up with two friendly matches on the weekend. When I entered the pitch here with my assistant coaches, we were just looking at each other with a big smile. Goosebumps. It’s really special.”
Matthias Jaissle on Kevin Keegan whose funeral was yesterday: “I heard straight away about it because he’s such a legend and I knew straight away what impact he had on that club. I think that will be also a special occasion against Liverpool. I heard that there will be some special things planned which will be emotional for sure. But I’m aware of that legacy.”
Matthias Jaissle on Nick Woltemade: “I saw he had quite a difficult period. From the first day, we talked a lot but we should leave the past behind because it’s something you cannot change. It’s just about looking forward, finding solutions and do our best, not only with Nick but all the other players as well to improve them. We need to find positions where they feel comfortable and work with the principles in our ideas of how we want to play football. And then there’s the development to see. I’m really optimistic but that not only counts for Nick but for the other players.”
