Shaun Wright-Phillips has been talking about Anthony Gordon.
The former Man City and England player wondering how this transfer from Newcastle United to Barcelona came about.
Whether the move makes sense.
Anthony Gordon signing for Barcelona after a deal of around £70m was agreed with Newcastle United.
The England international wanting to get his situation sorted before heading off to prepare for the World Cup finals. Gordon signing a five-year contract with Barca.
Shaun Wright-Phillips asked by Betway what he made of the Anthony Gordon move to Barcelona: “First of all, I don’t understand it because I thought Barcelona were in debt and they were struggling to pay £25m for Marcus Rashford, who has done unbelievable things there already. Secondly, I’m not quite sure where Anthony Gordon is going to play. I have had a conversation with a few of my old teammates and they think he’s going to play as a number nine, but Barcelona are also going in for Julian Alvarez as well. If they end up getting him, what was the point of Gordon leaving Newcastle where he’s playing all the time?”
Barcelona have had major financial issues to deal with but with their new stadium finally open, they have light at the end of the tunnel.
With Marcus Rashford, his £400,000 a week, £20m a year, Manchester United wages are obviously a huge problem.
As to whether Anthony Gordon will prove a success at Barcelona and where they intend to play him, Hansi Flick obviously has a plan and interesting to see if Gordon can prove the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips wrong.
