Terrible news on Tino Livramento.
Matt Law of The Telegraph with the exclusive.
He reports that his information is that Tino Livramento has picked up a new hamstring injury in training.
A huge blow for England and potentially Newcastle United, depending on how serious it is.
The man from The Telegraph hearing that it is serious enough to rule out Tino Livramento from taking part in the 2026 World Cup.
Matt Law reporting: ‘England’s World Cup preparations have been rocked by the news that Tino Livramento is expected to be ruled out of the tournament through injury. The Football Association is yet to confirm the news, but Telegraph Sport understands that Livramento has suffered a hamstring injury that will force him to miss the tournament.’
Most gutting of course for Tino Livramento himself if this proves to be the reality.
Injuries had restricted the Newcastle United defender to only 14 Premier League starts across the 2025/26 season.
The right-back only returning to full fitness in time for the summer tournament.
The Telegraph have put forward the name of Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah as a last-minute replacement.
They report that: ‘Tuchel can replace Livramento 24 hours before England’s first game against Croatia in Group L on Wednesday.’
Tino Livramento had been included in the England squad due to his versatility, able to play left-back and right-back.
I think Lewis Hall was massively unlucky not to make the World Cup squad and surely far more sense to bring him in as the replacement, especially with so few options in terms of left-footed players to play on the left. Djed Spence is in the squad and same as Tino Livramento is right-footed and can play on both sides. Bringing in the Chelsea right-footed central defender Chalobah doesn’t sound a great option to me.
Obviously I hope the Tino Livramento injury proves far less serious than thought but it sounds unlikely.
