Sunday brought the news before kick-off against Liverpool that Dan Burn was to miss the start of the season.
Sky Sports reporting that the England star had picked up an injury in training.
Dan Burn having rolled his ankle in training and arrived at St James’ Park on Sunday wearing a protective boot to limit movement and using crutches.
Sky Sports stated that their information was that the injury was not serious and will not require surgery but that the Newcastle United Captain would need a few weeks off while the injury settles.
However, now on Monday an update from Sky Sports, they say Dan Burn isn’t expected to be available for Newcastle United before the next international break. With Coventry away on Monday 12 October when he will hopefully be back in contention for a place in the NUFC matchday squad.
The United captain set to miss up to seven matches.
The first five Premier League fixtures and the Carabao Cup second round game against West Brom, plus a Carabao Cup third round match if Newcastle United get past the Baggies. That potential third round match would be played either week commencing Monday 7 September or week commencing Monday 14 September.
Sky Sports still insist that the injury isn’t too serious and that it is unlikely Newcastle United will make a move in the transfer market to cover for Burn while he’s out injured, as it is seen as only a short-term injury.
Plus of course pressing concerns in other positions before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
