It has now been reported in Italy that Newcastle United have made an enquiry for Giorgio Scalvini.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio says that his information is that an approach has been made by United to the player via his agents to enquire about potential availability.
No contact reported as yet though with the 22-year-old’s club Atalanta.
Giorgio Scalvini is a 6ft 4 central defender who is represented by the Epic Sports Agency. When Newcastle United bought and sold Lloyd Kelly he was represented by the same agency.
Back in July 2025 Newcastle United were originally linked with Giorgio Scalvini but nothing progressed.
At that time he’d had a bit of a nightmare 14 months with injuries, an ACL and then when recovered from that he picked up a shoulder issue. As a result he only made eight appearances in all competitions for Atalanta across the 2024/25 season.
A major improvement on that front last (2025/26) season as Giorgio Scalvini played a total of 30 games last season for Atalanta, scoring three goals and getting one assist
Newcastle United went on to sign Malick Thiaw from AC Milan last summer to give themselves another much needed option as a right-footed central defender.
Fabian Schar then agreed this summer to extend his contract at Newcastle United to the end of the 2026/27 season. Though he was forced off due to an unknown injury early in the midweek friendly defeat at Bristol City.
The 6ft 4in Giorgio Scalvini made his debut for Atalanta aged 17 and was 18 when making his first appearance for Italy, but then after two seasons as a first choice central defender, an ACL injury was picked up in the final game of the 2023/24 season.
Giorgio Scalvini is seen as a 22 year old with huge potential and having played at a high level for club and country at such an early age, clearly he has the ability, assuming he can successfully stay free from injury.
