This is how the Newcastle United squad now looks for the 2026/27 season.
The transfer window has now closed for Premier League clubs when it comes to incoming deals.
It was an 11pm deadline on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
When it comes to players leaving, a number of other European leagues still have their windows open and could potentially sign one or more Newcastle United players. The likes of Scotland, Turkey, Holland and Belgium and 14 other European leagues closing their windows on various days throughout September.
However, the other main European leagues have closed, the likes of France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Newcastle United players who have exited following the end of last season:
Kieran Trippier, John Ruddy, Emil Krafth, Matt Targett, Aaron Ramsdale, Harrison Ashby (loan), Anthony Gordon, Odysseas Vlachodimos (loan), Alex Murphy (loan), Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Joe White, Nick Woltemade (loan), Antonio Cordero (loan), Travis Hernes, Rory Finneran (loan), Anthony Munda (loan), Sean Neave (loan).
Eight Newcastle United signings made this summer, all of them aged 24 or younger:
Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Sean Steur (18), Bazoumana Toure (20), Aladji Bamba (20), Ewen Jaouen (20), Lukas Hornicek (24), Amar Dedic (24) and Nico Gonzalez (24).
So is this Newcastle United squad now fit for purpose, to take on the rest of the 2026/27 challenge that awaits them?
The 2026/27 Newcastle United squad as things stand (2 September 2026):
Goalkeepers
Lukas Hornicek, Ewen Jaouen, Mark Gillespie, Nick Pope
Full-backs
Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, Amar Dedic, Leo Shahar
Centre-backs
Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Fabian Schar
Midfielders
Joelinton, Jacob Ramsey, Joe Willock, Lewis Miley, Aladji Bamba, Sean Steur, Nico Gonzalez
Wingers
Harvey Barnes, Anthony Elanga, Jacob Murphy, Bazoumana Toure
Strikers
Yoane Wissa, William Osula, Matias Fernandez-Pardo
I make that four goalkeepers, four full-backs, four centre-backs, seven midfielders, four wingers, three strikers.
That gives a Newcastle United squad of 26 players.
However, it looks likely that Nick Pope will still leave, whilst Mark Gillespie will be the third goalkeeper.
The numbers above suggest 22 outfield players.
Whilst I have included 19-year-old Leo Shahar who has been regularly featuring in matchday squads. Still possible he could go out on loan as well I suppose but it has felt like Matthias Jaissle has seen him as more ready to step up to first team participation level than Sean Neave. There are other talented younger players but I think they will be staying with the younger age groups in terms of playing time this season, unless going out on loan.
