Manchester United have now given a massive update on their new stadium plans.
This is the latest in a series of updates as the club very publicly keeps their fans aware of what is happening.
The Manchester United project which includes a 100,000-seater ground and also general regeneration of the area including 15,000 new homes.
Now Manchester United have released a statement saying that they have bought the majority of the land they need to progress their plans for the massive new stadium (and the other parts of the general regeneration project).
The new announcement sees the club revealing that they have purchased a 25-acre triangle of land which is 350 metres away from the present stadium.
The Times report that: ‘Manchester United confirm they still need to acquire more land, sources say they do not expect any problems. Some businesses on the site have short-term leases which will need to be addressed but given the time frame that is not expected to be a problem.;
The Times going on to say: ‘The Old Trafford Regeneration Mayoral Development Corporation is now expected to publish a master plan, and announce a formal consultation period, on July 9. The club will then move onto the design phase of the new “Wembley of the North,” in conjunction with supporters, before submitting a planning application. Manchester United claim the 370-acre regeneration project will create about 48,000 local jobs and add more than £7billion a year to the UK economy.’
Collette Roche is CEO of Manchester United’s New Stadium Development and states: “We are committed to building a world-class stadium with our supporters not just for them, with atmosphere, affordability and accessibility at the heart of our thinking, This is a generational opportunity that is fully aligned with both local and national growth ambitions. Securing the right land for our new home has been absolutely critical, and the land we’ve acquired gives us the stage to deliver a truly world-class stadium that honours our past and is ready for our future.”
Newcastle United fans looking on enviously as we still know absolutely nothing about what the club’s owners plan to do, if anything, regarding stadium plans. We are coming up to five years since they bought Mike Ashley out but the Newcastle United owners still keeping fans totally in the dark about their intentions regarding a brand new stadium, or indeed a redeveloped St James’ Park.
We all know that it will be a huge project to deliver an ambitious Newcastle United stadium outcome BUT then it is for Manchester United as well. The club’s owners and senior staff have indicated a number of times that an official announcement is imminent, only for it then to be kicked down the road yet again.
