This Arsenal behaviour around Bruno Guimaraes is laughable.
Arsenal friendly journalists (and those in general who care little/nothing about the truth) desperate to claim the Newcastle United captain is moving to the Emirates in the very near future.
Many Arsenal fans the same, seeing it as a done deal, that it is simply for their club to decide if they want Bruno Guimaraes or not.
As though there are no other factors at play, such as whether Bruno Guimaraes would even be interested in going there, whether or not Newcastle United would consider selling him, then even if NUFC would be prepared to sell – would Arsenal pay the asking price?
It all feels very familiar…
A lot of people seem to have forgotten that for a year or more, this is how Arsenal fans and friendly journalists went on about Alexander Isak.
The 12 months or more leading up to around the time of Newcastle’s cup win at Wembley in March 2025, those connected with Arsenal going on like it was all but a done deal for the Sweden striker to be set to sign for them.
Arsenal fans and journalists seeing it as simply fact that Alexander Isak was desperate to play for them and would sign, they even claimed Isak was a lifelong fan of the Gunners. To further back up their claims that it would be an easy deal to get Alexander Isak, the Arsenal people came up with crazy valuations. Many of them little more than the £63m Newcastle had paid for Isak originally, some of the valuations even lower than that £63m! All of this despite Arsenal fans/journalists at the same time saying how brilliant the striker was and how many goals he would score for them WHEN he signed. Then when Newcastle United fans pointed out that even if NUFC were prepared to sell it would be a huge transfer fee, certainly £100m+, probably a new Premier League record, especially as Isak had a lengthy Newcastle contract. Arsenal fans then wanting to believe all kinds of nonsense as to why they would get him far cheaper, such as hidden contract clauses…
Which brings me back to Bruno Guimaraes.
Arsenal fans and journalists are at it again and it is even more hilarious this time around.
Arsenal fans desperate to believe that it is all but a done deal and the old contract clause at the heart of much of it.
This contract clause nonsense with Bruno seems to have come from media in Brazil and whilst there are various versions of it floating around, there are generally two parts to the desperate claims. The media repeating the story tend to claim it is £55m or £60m that any club can take Bruno Guimaraes for, whilst some claim the clause only exists for a certain time period but others don’t.
Whether there is a time limit or not on this mythical contract clause, I have one question. A question that in real life isn’t bothered to be asked/answered by media who will say literally anything to get money and attention.
If Bruno Guimaraes has a contract clause where Newcastle United would be powerless to stop a transfer happening, why has not one single club offered the £55m or £60m?
If it was true that such a clause existed, clubs would be queuing around the corner. Yet we are supposed to believe the clause exists and yet not a single club has triggered it? It would then simply be down to whether Bruno Guimaraes agreed to leave and Newcastle having no say.
If something doesn’t make sense then it is almost always a lie.
You then get Arsenal fans and journalists saying that even if the clause doesn’t exist or has passed its deadline, they then convince themselves and others that actually £60m or so is the maximum that Bruno Guimaraes is worth anyway, so Newcastle United would be surely prepared to do a deal at that price regardless.
I find the delusion incredible. How can anybody believe this £60m Bruno Guimaraes valuation is realistic in a week when Man City have agreed to pay £116m for Elliot Anderson and Tottenham £100m for Sandro Tonali.
Bruno Guimaraes is levels above both of these. Bruno is one of the stars of this World Cup, he is Newcastle United’s best player and captain/leader, yet NUFC would be willing to sell him for half of what Anderson’s going for and and not much more than half of Tonali’s deal.
Newcastle United have clearly taken a strategic decision to sell Gordon and Tonali to raise up to £170m and take two of the highest wages earners off the books, in order to give them far more freedom to revamp the squad by bringing in exciting young talent like Bazoumana Toure, Ewen Jaouen, plus others hopefully such as Lamine Camara and Johan Manzambi.
The idea that Newcastle United would then willingly sell their leader, their captain and best player for £60m or less…
Newcastle United have already lost a big leadership figure in Kieran Trippier and with the plan to bring in young talent, to then let your main man leave for a derisory £60m. What planet are they on if they believe this???
Bruno Guimaraes is priceless to Newcastle United in terms of value to the club at this moment in time. Even if you did believe he might go, any transfer fee would have to be more like the £116m Man City are paying for Anderson, rather than the £52m Spurs are paying for Jan Paul van Hecke.
Arsenal fans and journalists point out that Bruno Guimaraes is 28, he is only two years older than Sandro Tonali. Plus, as I said earlier, Bruno Guimaraes is a far better player than Tonali and Anderson, plus he creates and scores goals from midfield.
Bruno Guimaraes is super fit and totally dedicated to his training regime, with personal trainers and expert diet advice, as well as what he gets from NUFC. You look at this World Cup and similarly dedicated professionals such as Messi (39), Modric (40), Ronaldo (41). I would say Bruno Guimaraes has at least five years left at the top level, maybe even double that if you go by the likes of that trio. Bruno has never had real pace, just like Modric he relies on other qualities to dominate the opposition.
I can’t believe for one second that Newcastle United have any intention of selling Bruno Guimaraes this summer and whilst you can never say never, even if he somehow did leave NUFC you are talking £100m+.
The next stage of the delusion from Arsenal fans will be to then start and list their club’s rubbish and unwanted players, wanting to believe that Newcastle United would take their garbage and in return get Bruno Guimaraes for next to nowt.
You just need to look back at their fantasies surrounding ‘fellow Arsenal fan’ Alexander Isak and how they were definitely signing him for £70m or whatever, only to then see the real world intervene, Liverpool having to give Newcastle United £130m to eventually sign Isak.
Only seven weeks to go now until the Premier League 2026/27 season kicks off and when it does Bruno Guimaraes will be wearing the (not equally spaced) black and white stripes of Newcastle United, rather than the red and white of Arsenal.
