Released Newcastle United player agrees to join Premier League rival

It has now been revealed that less than three weeks after having been released by Newcastle United, Matt Targett has joined another Premier League club.

The former Aston Villa defender saw his United contract end on 30 June 2026 and he became a free agent.

Now Hull City have agreed a deal to sign Matt Targett after his departure from Newcastle United.

The Premier League newcomers looking to build a squad to deal with the step up to the top tier.

Ironically, Matt Targett was on the losing Middlesbrough side that were defeated in the play-off final by Hull City.

So if Middlesbrough had won at Wembley very likely that he would have been offered a permanent deal at Boro after a successful loan spell.

Hull Live report that their information is that Matt Targett will sign an initial two-year contract and undergoing his medical.

The former Newcastle United defender will turn 31-years-old in September.
