It has now been reported in Saudi Arabia that Matthias Jaissle has resigned as manager of Al Ahli.
This follows swiftly on from news of Eddie Howe resigning as manager of Newcastle United.
Thursday bringing the breaking news across the media that Eddie Howe had come to his decision a couple of weeks ago but had agreed to hold the fort until a replacement was lined up.
Newcastle United reported to have considered both Antonio Conte and Kieran McKenna but now Matthias Jaissle set to become the replacement.
Over in Saudi Arabia, media outlet SportKSA have now reported on Thursday: ‘Informed sources revealed that German coach Matthias Jaissle, the technical director of Al-Ahli, has officially submitted his resignation from his position, preferring not to accompany the team’s delegation on the return trip on the private plane immediately after the end of the overseas training camp.’
The report going on to say: ‘Al-Ahli is expected to issue an official statement in the next few hours to clarify the details and circumstances of the coach’s departure, and to determine the identity of the team’s technical leadership in the next stage.’
Matthias Jaissle has overseen pre-season preparations for Al Ahli, with the squad spending almost the entire month of July in Portugal and Spain, this included six friendly matches.
SportsKSA reporting that the Al Ahli squad and staff flew back to Saudi Arabia yesterday BUT without Matthias Jaissle, as he prepares to take over at Newcastle United.
The report also paying this tribute to the achievements of Matthias Jaissle with Al Ahli: ‘It is worth mentioning that Yassle, 38, took over the technical management of Al-Ahli in the 2023-2024 season, coming from the Austrian Salzburg, and during his time he succeeded in making a historic mark by winning the AFC Champions League title for two consecutive seasons, in addition to winning the Saudi Super Cup title. During his illustrious career with the team, the German coach led Al-Ahly in 138 official matches, during which he achieved victory in 92 encounters, while he drew in 21 matches and suffered defeat on 25 occasions, leaving his position leaving behind a great legacy of successes and championships.’
