The new manager and a much changed matchday squad doing the fans proud.
The Matthias Jaissle very unlucky not to kick off with a huge win, twice taking the lead, only for Liverpool to get a fortunate very late point.
Only three days later the next challenge swiftly follows.
Newcastle United taking on West Brom in the Carabao Cup at 7.45pm on Wednesday.
It is now 17 months since the Wembley victory and the new Newcastle United boss has revealed that the club tried to convince him of this competition by showing him footage of the celebrations that followed that first NUFC trophy in 56 years.
Matthias Jaissle telling them though that it wasn’t necessary: “They have tried to convince me to watch the footage. It was not needed….it has gone. The Carabao Cup is a big competition. It is important to the club and we are aware of that. We are looking forward to it. We want to play in the [next] round.”
The Newcastle United players have it their all in that first match of the season, the newly appointed NUFC boss couldn’t have asked for more.
Matthias Jaissle explaining ahead of Wednesday: “We have many players who are exhausted and some have minor injuries, so we need to see. We will make a decision when we get together on the team selection. We have the facility to regenerate mentally and physically.”
We already knew that Joelinton and Dan Burn would be missing, whilst Tino Livramento has only returned to group training. It has also now been claimed in the media that William Osula could be now set to miss a few weeks of action due to an injury picked up on Sunday.
