Glenn Hoddle has been talking about Newcastle United.
The former England manager giving his analysis after United made it four matches unbeaten this season.
A 2-2 draw against Bournemouth despite going 2-0 down at St James’ Park.
The Cherries making it 2-0 inside 35 minutes, only for Harvey Barnes to instantly go up the other end and score a curling wonder goal into the top corner.
Bournemouth easily the better team in the opening half but Newcastle United in control after the break. Although struggling to build momentum and create many clear cut chances as a combination of a useless referee and Bournemouth employing the time wasting dark arts meant building momentum was so difficult.
Glenn Hoddle talking to TNT Sports about the match: “When Newcastle United did put bodies in the box, you could see that Bournemouth were fragile, but they didn’t do that enough times. Overall, I thought Bournemouth were the better side, as a football team. Shape, and the chances they had in the first half, it could have been more than 2-1 at half-time.”
Glenn Hoddle going on to say: “The crowd weren’t at their very best as Newcastle weren’t playing well. Suddenly they engaged, and in the last six or seven minutes, Newcastle United became a different animal. You sensed that the [second equalising] goal was going to come.”
To be fair, the woeful referee actually helped create a better atmosphere than there would otherwise have been, as it appeared he was doing everything possible to help ensure Bournemouth would win, decision after decision going their way.
No disrespect to the opposition but playing at home to Bournemouth in the early Saturday kick-off is not exactly the best scenario for producing the best atmosphere.
Jacob Ramsey scored that deserved equaliser in the 88th minute and then the referee infuriated the crowd further by giving only six minutes added time when there should have been more than double that, as ref Rob Jones had repeatedly stopped the game in the second half for Bournemouth players to receive lengthy treatment from the physios.
