It has now been reported that Newcastle United are interested in signing Felix Nmecha.
Sky Sports publishing this as an exclusive, saying that their information is that United are considering a move for the midfielder.
Felix Nmecha is a first choice player for Germany and started all three group games as they won their group.
The 6ft 3 midfielder scored the first goal of the tournament for Germany in the 7-1 win over Curacao, then got an assist for the late winner against Ivory Coast.
Sky Sports say that Eddie Howe is a fan of Felix Nmecha and that he considered signing him in summer 2023, but instead opted for Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
That summer saw Nmecha sign instead for Borussia Dortmund from Wolfsburg.
Then ironically, the two clubs were drawn in the same Champions League group and Felix Nmecha scored the winner against Newcastle United in a 1-0 victory.
Sky Sports report that Felix Nmecha has an €85m (£75.5m) buy-out in a Borussia Dortmund contract that runs until 2030. However, they say that Newcastle United would be looking to pay less than that buyout figure if they now decide to bid for the player.
Felix Nmecha was born in Hamburg but his family located to the UK when he was aged seven with he and his brother Lukas both joining the Manchester City academy (Lukas Nmecha now plays for Leeds United).
After Manchester City released him at the age of 20 in June 2021, Felix Nmecha moved back to Germany to play for Wolfsburg and now Borussia Dortmund, playing first for the senior Germany team in 2023.
