Bruno Guimaraes travelled to Barcelona in midweek for the Newcastle United second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.
The Newcastle United captain not ready to return to action.
However, in the final stages of his recovery, Bruno Guimaraes wanting to give support to his teammates.
On Sunday though, it emerged that the Brazil international midfielder hadn’t turned up to St James’ Park for the derby match against Sunderland.
Bruno Guimaraes then using his personal Instagram account to explain why: “The only reason I’m not at the stadium in Newcastle is that after our flight back from Barcelona, I noticed my face was swollen and thought I was having an allergic reaction. But the next day when I woke up, I realized it was much more than that. I sent a photo to the doctor and he came to examine me. It was confirmed that I have mumps, and I need to remain in isolation for 5 days and stay away from physical activities for a bit longer. My focus now is to recover and be 100% as soon as possible.”
Newcastle United could certainly have done with the inspiration and leadership of their captain on Sunday.
As without Bruno Guimaraes (and Sandro Tonali, Fabian Schar and Lewis Miley), United managed to lose to a very poor and limited Sunderland team.
