Matthias Jaissle watched on as the match ended Coventry City 4 Newcastle United 1.
A bizarre match that United somehow found a way to lose.
Newcastle dominating possession, having far more shots, corners and touches in the opposition penalty area.
Yet repeatedly finding ways not to take the numerous chances and great situations they created.
Whilst at the other end helped Coventry to make so much of such a limited number of attacks.
Matthias Jaissle telling Sky Sports after the 4-1 defeat: “We are frustrated definitely. The lads as well in the dressing room, it’s a feeling you don’t want to have when you feel as though you should have won. We can only apologise to the fans that took the journey. We need to analyse it clearly, especially in the box, at both ends. The desire and hunger to score, to finish the attacks, that was missing.”
The United boss on the penalty incident, Lukas Hornicek having a nightmare when he fumbled the ball and then gave a very cheap spot-kick away: “It is something that can happen in football, especially when you are managing a young squad, but there can still be a possibility to go on and win that match.”
Whilst Newcastle United created a lot of their own problems, they also got nothing out of the match officials.
A couple of minutes into the second half and a reckless challenge on Joe Willock should have seen the Coventry player booked and a free-kick to Newcastle United. Instead the referee somehow gave Coventry the ball and made Joe Willock go off for a minute as he’d had to have treatment after having been fouled!!!
Whilst United were down to ten men the second Coventry goal went in, Matthias Jaissle: “The second goal there was a foul on Joe Willock but it wasn’t whistled, in my eyes, he was then missing in that spot where the ball dropped after the throw in. We need to improve the things we can control. It’s never nice to concede a goal but we had the approach after half time to come out and turn it around. The lads believed so we made the first goal and momentum was on our side. That’s something also we need to learn that in a risk zone you cannot lose the ball. You cannot invite the opposition to score the third one, then it’s going to be difficult.”
Matthias Jaissle asked about losing 4-1 in successive away matches: “There’s something we need to look at for sure. We need to win these games in the boxes. Defensively we need to improve. On the offensive we need to be more sharp.”
