Now revealed by Sky Sports that Arsenal have still not made direct contact with Newcastle United about Bruno Guimaraes.
This bizarre saga has dragged on right across the summer.
It was back in June when Arsenal used the media to first put out the message that they wanted to sign Bruno Guimaraes.
Since then we have day after day, week after week, month after month, been continually told by journalists that Arsenal are supposedly willing to pay varying amounts that are all way below Newcastle United’s valuation. A valuation that if met, would see NUFC reluctantly sell their captain.
Only four weeks now until the summer 2026 transfer window closes and only now 19 days until Arsenal kick off their Premier League season at home to Coventry, yet still no formal approach to Newcastle United for Bruno Guimaraes.
Keith Downie of Sky Sports has now reported that: “Newcastle United’s stance is unchanged — they want to keep their captain and are puzzled that no formal club-to-club approach has been made to this point, despite reports to the contrary.”
The longer this goes on, it surely makes it ever harder for Arsenal to get Newcastle United to sell Bruno Guimaraes.
The last thing the Newcastle United owners will want to allow is a repeat of last summer, when Alexander Isak was sold on summer 2025 transfer deadline day and last gasp incoming deals were done for Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.
If/when Arsenal do make direct formal contact with Newcastle United, Keith Downie says that: “It’s likely to take a bid upwards of £80m for Newcastle United to consider a sale.”
The Newcastle United squad fly off to Spain on Friday for their La Manga training camp and Matthias Jaissle joined them on Saturday. The clubs set to officially announce him as the new manager today.
It had previously been reported by Sky Sports that Bruno Guimaraes is scheduled to arrive in Spain today, direct from Brazil, where he has been having an extended break with his family after his World Cup involvement, the United captain then set to meet up with the rest of the Newcastle United players on Sunday in La Manga.
The plan then for Bruno Guimaraes to join in with training on Monday, unless of course in the meantime Arsenal, or any other club, make a formal approach/offer that changes these plans.
