Murphy, Botman and Wissa all failed to make the most of decent chances in the first 20 minutes. Then Willock and Ramsey wasted openings.
Millwall were no better with their finishing from set pieces in a low-quality first half. Every corner was a free-for-all, especially when United attacked, but neither keeper was severely tested.
The second half was more of the same, with United dominating possession while doing little with it. Elanga and Fernandez-Pardo arrived to give the attack more teeth. The referee refused to penalise persistent holding at corners, though he did finally find his yellow card.
With a penalty shootout looming and United having mustered only two shots on target, the game opened up. A bad mistake by Livramento, on for Dedic at half-time, let in Arconte, who smashed the ball off Hornicek’s near post with the keeper beaten.
Only two minutes later United made them pay. Hall found space on the left wing after neat passing. He cut back the ball low and hard for Willock to divert it expertly into the net.
A total of 25 attempts by the visitors but only six on target. Five of those I would have saved.
Still, a win against difficult opponents is all that matters and we head into the last 16 after extending our unbeaten record under Jaissle.
