Newcastle United season ticket holders have seen Champions League prices rise yet again!

After Friday’s draw, the club emailing season ticket holders with details of the ticket prices for the Barcelona game.

The Newcastle United season ticket holders understand they are in a fortunate position.

They have backed the club through the difficult years, long before Champions League nights returned. That loyalty deserves respect.

However, many now feel stuck in a Catch 22.

If Newcastle United season ticket holders don’t opt into the cup scheme to get tickets for every Champions League match, their chances of getting a ticket to a potential final are extremely slim.

So while the cup scheme is technically optional, in reality it doesn’t feel that way.

At the start of the season, Newcastle United season ticket holders were told standard seating for Champions League fixtures for adults would be £60.

Since then, the goalposts have moved…not once, but twice.

It went up to a minimum £65 for the Qarabag play-off home leg and the price now sits at a minimum £69 for the Barcelona last 16 game at St James’ Park.

Transparency matters.

Consistency matters.

Loyalty should not feel like leverage.

Clubs often talk about fans being the heart of football, but across the Premier League and at St James’ Park too, it increasingly feels like loyalty is being monetised at every opportunity.

Newcastle United season ticket holders backed the club when times were hard. They deserve clarity, fairness and respect now that times are good.

Without the fans there is no atmosphere, no identity, no club.
