An interesting Wednesday for Yoane Wissa and William Osula.
The Newcastle United duo meeting up in Liege, Belgium. Denmark v DR Congo at a neutral ground with over 23,000 there to watch it.
For Yoane Wissa and DR Congo this now looks set to be their very final warm up match ahead of the World Cup finals, as local authorities in Spain have cancelled next Tuesday’s planned friendly against Chile due to Ebola concerns.
A good workout though against a strong Denmark who should have qualified for this World Cup, Yoane Wissa playing as a second striker with Real Betis forward Cedric Bakambu.
The Newcastle United player actually played really well, connecting up play and setting up teammates for a number of shots at goal, whilst also seeing an effort of his own blocked.
A huge moment for William Osula last night, he replaced Man U’s Patrick Dorgu for the second half and this was his first senior appearance for Denmark. He did himself no harm either with a hard working display and putting himself about.
Whilst Denmark hit the woodwork twice, this was a very even contest with chances at both ends, but it somehow ended up a goalless stalemate. Yoane Wissa (pictured below up against Patrick Dorgu last night) was subbed off with a few minutes to go along with another DR Congo player to give others a bit of time on the pitch.
Former Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba was captain and played the full match, he and Yoane Wissa along with their DR Congo teammates now look forward to their next match, the opening World Cup group match against Portugal on Wednesday 17 June.
William Osula looking forward to a possible first ever start for his country at senior level, as Denmark play Ukraine on Sunday (7 June) in a friendly.
The 2026 World Cup finals begin on Thursday 11 June and run through until the final on Sunday 19 July.
