In my most recent article I posed the question: ‘How long do you think Newcastle United can remain unbeaten?’
I asked fellow NUFC fans on The Mag to use all their optimism and tell me where they think this unbeaten run ends.
After giving it a few days, this is an overview of the responses I received via the commenting section on The Mag.
There were a lot of different answers, some of you used a lot of optimism, such as Timtoontime who predicts us to go unbeaten for the rest of the season. Does that mean we win the league?
There were others who didn’t quite enjoy the question, saying this is going to cause a jinx effect. No worries, keep the optimism and that jinx effect will soon fly away.
Then we come to the more realistic answers, bringing us back down to earth a bit. Most of you guys see us getting a win or at least a draw at Elland Road. That’s where a lot of people stopped though.
The next game is also seen as winnable by most of you who looked further on but don’t underestimate Hull City. As big Premier League clubs like Man United, Aston Villa and Chelsea all got ‘mauled by the tigers’ (a chant I absolutely love. It is stuck in the back of my mind).
After the international break we have mostly mid-table clubs, always tricky clubs who are easy to lose against. Coventry shouldn’t be a problem, as Frank Lampard’s men seem too weak for Premier League football after their 0-5 loss against Brighton.
The following games are against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, (unknown opponent in Carabao Cup), Everton and Fulham. Aston Villa seems the most tricky one, but the Villains have started the season slowly with only one point out of a possible 12. There are a few people who see us unbeaten still as we head into the November international break which immediately follows the Fulham match (the full list of upcoming matches is detailed below).
Next up then is Arsenal (straight after the November international break), this is where for most people the road ends (if it hasn’t already). The reigning Champions started the Premier League campaign perfectly with a 12 out of 12 points after their 0-2 win against Sunderland (Bruno G is still a magpie in his heart, loved the celebration!)
And then there is one single person who replied and who believes we can counter-attack against Arsenal and get a result.
The optimism of Jez Brizzle is what I searched for in this article, so thanks a lot to you mate.
This is how long I think this Newcastle United unbeaten run could last…
I also need to make my prediction on how long we can remain unbeaten. I am going to use a bit of optimism as I told you guys to do that also.
This next game against Leeds is certainly winnable. I know that last season at Elland Road we got a 0-0 draw and so I hope we get the same as a minimum, as we are playing our first of three Monday night fixtures in the span of a month and a half.
After that, Hull City for me is really tricky. I’m really impressed with the way they are getting these results. Many thought they were going to be the weakest of the three promoted teams but they turned out to be the best as of now.
We have to underline that it is a home fixture and with the crowd supporting the 11 men on the pitch, I think we can at least get a draw.
Then we head into an international break of three weeks (who came up with that idea???). Three weeks is a long time and I certainly think it could affect our play.
However, Coventry City shouldn’t be a problem, as mentioned earlier they aren’t Premier League quality.
I believe we can overcome Aston Villa with their poor form but after that, things get tricky. Mid-table clubs aren’t as simple as some might think and we certainly experienced that last season. That’s why my optimism has run out on one of the next three games.
Of course I hope that it is going to be the last one against Fulham if it had to be one of these three but I do see us getting a reality check before our clash with reigning champions Arsenal and the return of Bruno Guimaraes to St. James’ Park.
