Newcastle United full-back has moved to Luton Town.
An official announcement on Thursday (9 July 2026) morning revealing the news.
The club official release beginning: ‘Newcastle United defender Harrison Ashby has joined League One side Luton Town on a season-long loan deal. Harrison made eight appearances while on loan with Bradford City in League One during the second half of the 2025/26 season.’
The Newcastle United statement going on to say: ‘The 24-year-old right back joined the club in January 2023 from West Ham United before completing loan spells in the Championship with Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers. He will now link up with Jack Wilshere’s squad as they look to improve on last season’s seventh-place finish, which saw them narrowly miss out on the League One play-offs. Everyone at Newcastle United would like to wish Harrison well for the season ahead.’
Harrison Ashby arrived in the same transfer window (January 2023) and they were paraded on the pitch together at St James’ Park on a home matchday.
At the time it was reported as a transfer deal of around £3m that Newcastle United agreed with West Ham United. So a hopeful punt on an inexperienced 21-year-old, rather than a big money signing with a lot of expectation.
I think clearly he has a decent future career ahead of him but not at Newcastle United, nor in the Premier League.
This year at Luton Town will take him up to summer 2027 and four and a half years since he joined Newcastle United. My guess would be that surely this will be the end of his time at NUFC as well, likely to be then out of contract next summer. Hopefully he does well at Luton Town and gets a permanent contract there, or at another decent level club.
