Allan Saint-Maximin has been talking about Newcastle United, one of the eleven clubs he has played for in his career, so far.

The enigmatic winger spent four seasons at St James’ Park, the longest he has ever been at a club.

His 11th and latest club is Charlotte FC who are currently fifth in the MLS Eastern Conference 2026 table after 24 matches.

Allan Saint-Maximin joined them in their mid-season transfer window and has two assists so far from four league starts and two sub appearances.

The former Newcastle United winger spent the second half of the 2025/26 season with Lens, they were desperate to keep Allan Saint-Maximim after he helped them win the French Cup and finish runners-up in Ligue 1. ASM scoring four goals and providing three assists in 13 appearances. However, the French winger opting to move to yet another new club for a new adventure with Charlotte FC.

For Allan Saint-Maximin though, there is only one true love where football is concerned.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Allan Saint-Maximin declaring: “Newcastle United is my dream club, I love it from the bottom of my heart. I watch every single game. They gave me what no one gave to me and I will never forget that. I’m very loyal. I had many opportunities to come to the Premier League, but I didn’t because of them.”

Allan Saint-Maximin was a shining light of hope and entertainment in the two years we endured under the dual misery of Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley.

ASM then post-takeover helped Eddie Howe and the new Newcastle United owners initially avoid relegation and then go on to finish four and qualify for the Champions League, as well as reach the first cup final in 24 years for United in the 2022/23 season.

Allan Saint-Maximin volunteered at the local foodbank and also gave Newcastle United fans gifts at times, ASM saying:  “If I was able to give all of my money to them, I would, because there is nothing better than the feeling they give you. It is something you can’t buy, and I’ve tried to. The love they give to you, when I ran with the ball, I had the feeling of people behind me and I ran because of them. This feeling is incredible. I wish the same for every single player because they can bring the best out of you.”

As the quality of the team increased under Eddie Howe and the first team starts became more scarce for the French winger, in order to help rebuild the squad, Allan Saint-Maximin was sold for £23m to Al-Ahli on 30 July 2023 to give United extra financial flex.

Allan Saint-Maximin now also says he hopes Matthias Jaissle and his backroom staff “have the best possible time” with Newcastle United, just as he did.

Matthias Jaissle was appointed by Al-Ahli on 29 July 2023, only 24 hours after ASM had signed for them.

The newly promoted club then saw the new manager and winger help guide them to third place in the Saudi Pro league, in the only season Matthias Jaissle and Allan Saint-Maximin spent together.
