The former Holland, Barcelona and Ajax star discussing the teenager who joined Newcastle United this summer.
Michael Reiziger full of praise for Sean Steur’s development.
The 18-year-old has made an outstanding start on Tyneside and in pre-season and now in the competitive matches, has shown incredible maturity to take on such responsibility at a young age.
The teenager only made a limited number of starts for Ajax last year as he kicked off his first team career but it was enough to persuade Newcastle United to spend £23m on the exciting midfield prospect.
Michael Reiziger is boss of the Netherlands Under 21s and he has been explaining to vi.nl why he has called the young Newcastle United star into his squad for the first time: “Sean joined Ajax’s first team last year and did well there but it was often alternating between playing one game and sitting on the bench…now Sean continues to develop at Newcastle United which is great to see.”
The former Ajax and Barcelona star going on to say: “Sean Steur is simply a good footballer. And the minutes he can get there [at Newcastle United], he just needs to extend them; that will make him even stronger. But the fact that he is already playing so much at the highest level in the best league in the world, at a club that is highly regarded there too: I think that is very impressive for his age.”
Exciting times for both Newcastle United and the Netherlands to have such an emerging talent, Michael Reiziger declaring: “Sean is a player you don’t see very often. He reads the game, has drive, is calm on the ball, and can really take control of the game. I saw that last year at Ajax as well, that he already wanted to position players, because he knows: if you stand there, I will become free in another spot. You can already see him orchestrating that and I find that very beautiful to see.”
