Marseille have appointed a former Newcastle United star as the replacement for Roberto De Zerbi.
The French club naming Habib Beye as the new boss.
An interesting move as only last week the former Newcastle United defender was sacked by Rennes.
Habib Beye now quickly taking over at Marseille who are fourth in Ligue 1, two places and six points above Rennes in sixth.
Marseille had parted ways with Roberto De Zerbi after a a 5-0 defeat to PSG, on top of a group stage exit in the Champions League.
Habib Beye spent four years at Marseille during his playing career, before leaving for Newcastle United in 2007 as he approached his 30th birthday.
Newcastle United fans will remember him as a classy right-back and one of the few successes of the Sam Allardyce (thankfully!) brief era, arriving at NUFC in August 2007.
Habib Beye also had a quality terrace chant (‘Happy Days’) as well.
Marseille stating about this Habib Beye appointment: “His deep attachment to Olympique de Marseille and his intimate knowledge of the environment in Marseille can be major assets in taking the club to the next step.”
After two seasons with United, Habib Beye moved to Aston Villa in 2009, before ending his playing career with Doncaster Rovers.
