Julian Nagelsmann has been talking about Nick Woltemade.

The Germany boss having done a major interview with Kicker.

Julian Nagelsmann discussing a number of Premier League stars, ahead of the internationals later this month.

Nick Woltemade scored four goals in the six World Cup group qualifiers to help fire Germany into this summer’s World Cup finals.

Now Germany face Switzerland (27 March) and Ghana (30 March) in their last two matches before the league season ends, two friendlies in preparation for when the World Cup kicks off in June.

Julian Nagelsmann giving a reality check to Kicker when explaining where Nick Woltemade is really at in his career journey: “At Stuttgart, he wasn’t even in the Champions League squad during the first half of last season, then he played a good second half of the season with seven goals. That’s not a criticism of Nick. He’s a young player who needs time to develop, as we can now see at Newcastle.”

Before signing for Newcastle United, Nick Woltemade had only started 31 Bundesliga matches in his career up to that point.

Julian Nagelsmann going on to say: “That’s why I don’t expect him to score 15 goals at Newcastle [this season]. I told him just last week to stay relaxed. We have faith in him.”

Whilst Eddie Howe continues to look for the best way to use Nick Woltemade in his Newcastle United team, for those trying to make out that Big Nick has been a total flop, the statistics don’t back that up.

As well as those four goals (and an assist) this season that have helped take Germany to the World Cup, Nick Woltemade has scored ten goals for Newcastle United and contributed three assists, having started 30 NUFC matches so far.

As Julian Nagelsmann says, Nick Woltemade and Newcastle United just need time to find the best way to utilise him, as well as the team to step up as a whole.
