Chelsea 0 Newcastle United 1 – Saturday 14 March 2026 5.30pm
Instant fan/writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.
Nat Seaton:
‘Two Germans, eight Englishman and a Dutchman went to Stanford Bridge and produced an away performance worthy of a brilliant win!
Great goal from Gordon but defending is part of the game too…
A clean sheet against a team that rarely doesn’t score.
Smiles all around leaving the ground, maybe just maybe it could be the same on Wednesday!!’
Matt Busby said…:
‘Get in!
Great performance.
We’ll see what happens in the Nou Camp but those back to back league wins has given us some much needed impetus ahead of the run in.
Three away wins in the league on the spin also.
Conference league looks eminently doable now as this roller coaster ride continues to give as many thrills as it does spills.
Who’d have thought it a fortnight ago?’
GToon:
‘Massive win. Absolutely huge.
The team look like they are getting better with every game.
Every single player gave their best tonight.
Eddie made all the right changes and freshened the team up perfectly.
Chelsea stuck with the same billion pound team from PSG and looked tired and could not find a way past our lads.
Ramsdale looked assured and his ability to keep the ball and play it, is vital in retaining possession against teams like Chelsea.
Great goal too.
Hope Willock is ok as he looked good tonight.
BNW looked out of position but he’s learning more every game.
Always great to win away. Happy days!
Jamie Smith:
‘This feels like a big win to set up the finale of the season with 9th feeling a bit better than our usual standings of late.
Big big week ahead for so many reasons but winning at a ground that has traditionally been a nightmare is a great start to it!’
Simon Ritter:
‘One wholehearted Newcastle United performance, one superb move that cut through the heart of Chelsea’s midfield and defence, one cool finish to secure all three points.
Livramento started it with a quick run out of defence. Willock latched onto his precisely weighted pass and, after holding off two opponents, he gave Gordon a gilt-edged chance that he buried.
We outfought and out-thought the King’s Road outfit, who are still a bunch of limited individuals rather than a team.
Everybody put in a shift for United, with Anthony Gordon my man of the match for his excellence in attack and defence.’
Billy Miller:
‘What a win that is.
I didn’t fancy us when I saw the absence of Tonali and Joelinton but we were disciplined and compact.
It wasn’t an easy watch but those points are huge and suddenly we’re six points off fifth with a favourable run in.
What a strange season.’
Tony Mallabar:
‘After 17 minutes it was all Chelsea, but fair play to us, we battled back and 1-0 was more than a fair result with our defence back to it’s stoic best.
Having family who are Chelsea fans I’ve always had a soft spot for them.
But even I have to admit that Liam Rosenior comes across as a right insufferable doylem.’
David Punton:
‘Eddie Howe and his players strutting down the King’s Road with a mega three points.
We don’t win at Stamford Bridge that often so that was one to savour. Get in there!
Many games on this crummy old ground have been torture – so for once, we emerge victorious.
We needed a good away win and it heals the pain of the Barca heartbreak.
It’s also, finally, one where we managed not to concede a late goal.
Well done to all involved. Next stop….the Nou Camp!’
