Marco Rose has been talking about Newcastle United and Matthias Jaissle ahead of Saturday.
The Bournemouth boss looking forward to the 12.30pm match at St James’ Park.
Sacked from his previous job at RB Leipzig in March 2025, it was 13 months later when Marco Rose was announced as the man who would replace Andoni Iraola ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The German coach had previously managed RB Salzburg between 2017 and 2019, a job that Matthias Jaissle would later take on from 2021 to 2023.
Now the two German Head Coaches set to face each other in the Premier League.
Marco Rose speaking at his pre-match press conference: “Newcastle United are doing well. I know Matthias from Salzburg because I was the manager there and he succeeded, not me, but the manager after me, or after the manager after me! I visited old friends at the training ground and we met. We had a talk, had a chat. I know he is a good coach, he has an idea of football and he brought that idea really quickly into the team of Newcastle. They are in a good spot, in good shape, play quite intense. They have a clear pattern with and against the ball, but the same things we have as well.”
Bournemouth have picked up only one point in their opening two Premier League matches. However, they led at Manchester City after scoring in the 26th minute, only to concede in the 84th and 91st minutes.
Then last weekend Bournemouth scoring at home in the 41st minute, only to concede against Everton in the 91st minute.
Marco Rose sees this Newcastle United challenge as “a chance to do things better” and he’s hoping they can finish Saturday’s match stronger than in the opening two games. The Bournemouth boss also confirmed he had no new injury concerns.
Evaluating what he has seen so far with his new team since the season kicked off, Marco Rose reflecting: “Disappointing, but I have to evaluate our performances, we were always close [to winning]. It doesn’t mean that we are happy but I am convinced we are in a good place.”
Bournemouth kept all their best players, including Alex Scott, Rayan and Junior Kroupi, whilst having a £60m+ net spend this summer.
