Brighton fans have been talking about how the Newcastle United match played out on Saturday.
United running out 3-1 winners in an eventful game.
Many of the Brighton fans also giving their thoughts on visiting Tyneside.
For Newcastle United it was a valuable three points and confidence boosting victory.
For the Seagulls a blow to their European hopes but not a fatal one as yet.
Brighton fans commenting after this defeat to Newcastle United via their North Stand Chat forum:
‘Without doubt the best away trip, I think.
On the walk up to the ground we had three different groups come up for a chat, wish us luck and hoped we got Europe. Greggs for lunch (when in toon etc) and again people came and sat for a chat. A couple of brilliant old boys.
At the ground loads stopped us for chat. There was no edge of to any of it. Just nice people wanting to talk about football. They all still had full faith in Eddie. On the way back to the car we spoke to several who all said unlucky and we were better team but final ball and finishing was rubbish but we also agreed set pieces and breaks were dangerous.
It is such a shame they sold their soul as a club because the fans are great.
Nick pope’s time wasting had to be respected. Not even booked. Remarkable. Two great saves which was arggghhhhh.
Bruno is a heck of a player and despite being a wind up merchant he is apparently a top bloke. Lewis Hall’s brother Connor had some time at brackley and joined us for the Cheltenham trip. When lewis first joined Newcastle Bruno could not do enough for him. Even helped with his meals.’
‘Completely echo the sentiment re their fans. They totally won me over. What a lovely bunch of people they are. Everywhere we stopped we had really nice chats with them. Such a shame they are owned by such scumbags, they deserve better. Despite the result a cracking away day.’
‘Newcastle should not applaud themselves for that win. A pitiful team, of divers and timewasters and obscene wages.’
‘Newcastle pace on the break and poor keeping did for us.’
‘Well that was disappointing.
It’s not ideal to lose to a very poor Newcastle side, but it feels to me like just one of those days when a lot of them had a bad game all at the same time.’
‘I don’t think it’s right to call Newcastle “a very poor side”. They played pretty well today and I thought they played well against Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend too. They’ve had a disappointing season by their usual recent standards though I suspect getting quite far in the Champions League accounts for part of that.’
‘Fine margins went against and when we could have salvaged something Minteh capped off a terrible display with a shocking miss.’
‘He wanted to come off. You could see it via his body language and the fact that he was moving towards the bench as the substitutions were about to be made, and that was before his miss.’
‘We obviously don’t want Europe. Newcastle are rubbish but we were worse.’
‘Generally we were not that bad. A suicidal mistake by Bart some incredibly unlucky near misses and some awful finishing by us. Plus our defence was outpaced repeatedly on the wings.’
‘Could of nicked a point but Newcastle would then argue they should of had 5.’
‘Not sure that’s actually possible?!’
‘A disappointing loss , we were outmuscled and how the hell did Joelinton who played like a thug get away without being booked ? He even got the ref to book Veltman when we had a corner. When Burn got a yellow card why didn’t Hurzeler switch Minteh back to the right wing ?’
‘We swatted Chelsea aside which put a lot of goodwill in the bank for me. So I’m able to shrug about this one and say it’s a shame but hardly a disgrace given that Newcastle were finally back to something near full-strength after their poor run of results.’
‘Good to see people on social media completely overreact to this loss, some bloke in the stadium booing ffs. Very odd. We’ve been great for weeks and slightly come unstuck.’
‘A mad game completely bonkers we could have won 0-3 or lost 5-0 and neither would have been unbelievable.’
‘I live up here… I’ve had numerous texts/admissions from the more reasonable and honest Geordie horde that they got very very lucky today.
Move on, get a win against Wolves and away we go again.’
‘Newcastle had a couple of their big players back from injury including Bruno G and it was clear that they were very determined to put on a performance for Eddie Howe and want to finish above Sunderland.’
‘They are a really friendly bunch. Same as last season when we beat them.
Great place to visit too with the stadium being in the City Centre.’
‘There’s a good reason why I keep doing this insanely long trip, much to the bafflement of friends of mine: once you’re up here it’s the best away trip of the lot. The city is great, people really are super friendly and you can walk even from that away end to a city centre hotel in about 15 minutes, then guzzle and swig to your aching heart’s content somewhere nice.’
‘It’s a top City tbf… and yes the weather can be a little ‘indifferent’ but I’ve been here nearly all my life and it’s a wonderful town to have fun in… and the Geordies seem to ‘not mind us’ as a club/fans… it’s all good.’
‘Newcastle would be the perfect away trip but for one thing – placement of the away fans inside the ground.’
‘Newcastle ‘completely dominated’ the game, according to MOTD.’
‘If they said that they obviously did not watch the game. Amateurish to come out with such absolute balderdash.’
‘When we finished 6th last time, we were actually in a similar spot. We went to SJP for our penultimate away game and got smashed 4–1, which wasn’t great at all.
Ok, so Newcastle were 3rd back then, but we were still in good form ourselves — coming off a 3–0 win over Arsenal, sitting 6th and only a point ahead of Spurs and Villa with three games left. It was very tight then as well.
So it just shows, these results can happen but bouncing back next weekend is the key.’
