Lee Clark took over as Hartlepool United manager in May.
However, only four months later the manager and club have parted company.
The National League side releasing an official statement: ‘Hartlepool United Football Club can confirm that Lee Clark has resigned from his position as Head Coach with immediate effect. We would like to thank Lee for his service during his time at the club and wish him every success for the future. A further update will be provided in due course.’
A very decent crowd of 3,920 were at Victoria Park on Saturday but witnessed yet another defeat, a 3-1 home loss to Worthing.
It was a third defeat in a row and a sixth in seven matches for Hartlepool United.
Lee Clark declaring his resignation to the media, telling BBC Radio Tees: “I resign from my position with immediate effect…I wanted to give this club and the fans something to be proud of, what they deserve, but I haven’t been able to do that unfortunately. I was excited to take the job and I wanted to be the man to get them back to where they need to be and deserve to be but it hasn’t worked out.”
Hartlepool United confirming they have accepted the former Newcastle United star’s resignation.
A sad story all round, for both Lee Clark and the club.
The non-league picture a bit of a dismal one at the minute in the fifth tier of English football. After nine rounds of league matches played, Hartlepool are sixth bottom in 19th place on nine points. Whilst for Gateshead it is even worse, they are 24th and rock bottom on only four points.
