A brilliant away performance from the young Newcastle United stars away at Manchester United.

Having lost only twice all season, the Manchester United Under 21s only needed a point to ensure they would finish top of the table above Chelsea.

Instead on Friday night, it only took Newcastle eight minutes to take the game away from them, as well as what looked a certain top of the table finish to the regular league season.

After only four minutes, the excellent Park Seung-soo outpaced the Man U defence and picked out Matheos Ferreira to shoot United into the lead.

After eight minutes it was effectively game over, as Sean Neave’s superb lob put United two up.

Neave, Munda and Seung-soo all came close to making it 3-0 but we got to the break with a two gaol advantage.

Ten minutes into the second half Man U halved the deficit through Victor Musa’s header.

Then it was the turn of the Newcastle United defence to come to the fore, as they soaked up the Man U pressure as the home side desperately looked to turn the game around to finish top of the table.

However, Aidan Harris in the Newcastle United goal was rarely troubled as those in front of him kept the danger largely away from him.

United then sealed it for sure late on, Sean Neave (pictured below) with the pass and Anthony Munda applying the finish after a Man U defensive mix-up, the match finishing 3-1 to the away side.

Final score: Manchester United U21s 1 Newcastle United U21s 3

Newcastle United Under-21s: Aidan Harris, Mason Miley (Logan Watts 84), Dylan Charlton (Henry Johnson 62), Miodrag Pivaš, Ciaran Thompson (c), Rory Finneran, Matheos Ferreira (Michael Mills 73), Scott Bailey, Sean Neave, Anthony Munda, Seung-soo Park (Kyle Fitzgerald 84).

Newcastle United Under-21s end their 2025/26 Premier League 2 campaign on Monday night against Wolves at Whitley Park (kick-off 7pm)

NUFC are 18th of 29 in the table and can finish no higher than 17th at best, with a heavy win over Wolves.

Having failed to finish in the top 16, the Newcastle United Under 21s are now guaranteed to finish as one of the eight teams between 17th and 24th.

That means they will go into an inter-league competition which also involves the top eight finishers from the Professional Development League (The Under 21 competition for clubs with Category Two Academies).
