Nico González is now on Tyneside after Tuesday brought the breaking news that Newcastle United had agreed a transfer deal with Manchester City.
The Athletic reporting it as a £52m deal, a fixed guaranteed £48m plus up to £4m more in potential future add-ons.
Sky Sports state that Nico González travelled up to Newcastle yesterday after the deal was thrashed out, an NUFC delegation having gone down to Manchester to get the deal finalised.
The Spanish midfielder having his medical and Sky Sports report that the club are hoping to have the completed transfer announced ahead of the 7.45pm kick-off tonight against West Brom.
Keith Downie covers Newcastle United for Sky Sports and he says their information is that after Nico González is announced, they hope to follow that up by adding another forward before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday 1 September. However, he adds that the club will not be panicked into signing just anyone, that they will only sign one of their targets that they are confident will add the necessary quality to the Newcastle United squad.
Nico González is set to be the seventh Newcastle United signing of the summer.
Signed for £52m (the same amount as what Newcastle United are said to have agreed to pay) from Porto at the start of February 2025, the now 24-year-old midfielder has made 41 Manchester City appearances (all competitions) in total the last season and a half.
Based on reported transfer fees, the £52m deal would take the figure beyond £230m for seven Newcastle United summer signings (so far) once Nico González completes his move.
