Nick Pope is now reported to be a target for Bayern Munich.
Sky Germany state that according to their sources, the Newcastle United goalkeeper is one of a number of goalkeepers under consideration by the Bundesliga champions.
Manuel Neuer will turn 41 during this season and is expected to retire from football next summer.
Bayern Munich already have a successor ready to take over. This is Jonas Urbig, he is a 23-year-old German international and set to be number one next season.
Urbig made 17 Bayern Munich appearances last season, partly due to Manuel Neuer getting injured. This season the current cover keeper has played only once for the Bundesliga club.
Jonas Urbig will become number one next season and so Bayern Munich are looking at Nick Pope and others as the potential number two.
Nick Pope was expected to leave this summer as Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen arrived. However, with less than nine months of his contract remaining, Pope is still at NUFC. The United and England goalkeeper set to be a free agent at the end of June 2027.
When the English transfer window closed at the start of September, as well as those in the vast majority of other European leagues, Matthias Jaissle was asked about Nick Pope not getting a new club: “There are a couple of countries where there are still options that players can move to [where their transfer windows haven’t closed yet]. I had a clear conversation with Nick a couple of weeks ago about his position here at the club and to make a move elsewhere, that is not only a club decision, it is also a decision of the players, Also the agent. There are many parts involved usually in deals and so we will see. But for now Nick is a member of the squad and I really appreciate him and what he did for the club already, how he is dealing with the situation right now.”
