A new exclusive from The Times has now reported that their information is that Eddie Howe has the “full Support” of the Newcastle United owners.

Sunday saw a minority of the fans booing after the full-time whistle.

However, despite that derby loss and Newcastle United struggling to qualify for the Champions League, the club hierarchy are fully behind the United boss ahead of what is going to be a massive summer and then the 2026/27 that follows.

With seven Premier League matches still to play, Newcastle United are seven points adrift of the Champions League qualifying places.

Whilst United are only four points off the top seven, which would guarantee a place in the Conference League, potentially the Europa League.

The Times says that the Newcastle United owners still see European qualification of some kind as crucial for Newcastle United.

This follows two Champions League qualifications in the last three seasons and in the 2023/24 season, Eddie Howe and his players would have qualified for the Conference League after finishing seventh in the Premier League. Only for Man U to cause a shock upset in the FA Cup final when defeating Man City, which had the knock on effect of denying Newcastle United European football.

As things currently stand, if results and league placings fell perfectly this season, both in the Premier League and European competitions, there could be as many as 11 Premier League clubs playing in the three European competitions next season.

To no great surprise it is reported that the Newcastle United owners are planning a comprehensive evaluation of this 2025/26 season once it has concluded, BUT that they see Eddie Howe as a key part of the solution of seeing the team/club bounce back, rather than as the problem.

With a crazy 51 matches played already, Newcastle United have had more games than any other club in the top five European leagues. Plus of course a horrendous season of injuries and so many key players missing for long periods.

As The Times point out, this included five games in 15 days against Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona twice and Chelsea in the build-up to the game against Sunderland on Sunday.

No surprise that the Newcastle United owners see Eddie Howe as the best person to still head up the club next season, after all, he is by far the best decision/appointment they have made since buying the club from Mike Ashley. Howe with a stunning spell in charge, rescuing the club from relegation after inheriting what had looked a near impossible situation from Ashley and Steve Bruce, then in his three full seasons so far taking United to two cup finals, two Champions League qualifications and…a trophy.
