The Newcastle United owners watched on at St James’ Park as Eddie Howe led his team to a 3-1 win over Brighton.
A much needed victory on Saturday after four Premier League defeats in a row, five losses in a row in all competitions.
More good news for Eddie Howe emerging now on Sunday.
With The Athletic revealing that the NUFC Head Coach will be leading United into the 2026/27 season.
This follows talks between Eddie Howe and the Newcastle United owners .
The Athletic saying that their information is that following conversations with Yasir Al-Rumayyan and the rest of the board of directors, Eddie Howe still has their backing.
They report that “Barring an unexpected turn of events”, Howe will be in charge when Newcastle United kick off their next Premier League season on the weekend of Saturday 22 August 2026.
The Athletic state: “Despite a downturn in results this campaign, Newcastle’s ownership have balanced this out with multiple qualifications for the Champions League and ending the club’s trophy drought last season across his four full seasons in charge.”
A fortnight ago (17 April 2026) we ran a poll on The Mag asking Newcastle United fans if they wanted Eddie Howe to be replaced this summer, or stay to lead us into next season.
Thousands of Newcastle United fans voted and an overwhelming 76% of them backed Eddie Howe to continue.
The Athletic report does also point out though that: “All parties have acknowledged this season has not been good enough and cannot be repeated…”
I think we all knew this to be the case but as the Newcastle United owners have accepted, the incredible challenges of a 58 match season for such a small squad that was hit by so many injuries, made this 2025/26 campaign so difficult. Especially when they, the Newcastle United owners themselves, have to take most of the responsibility for the shambolic summer 2025 transfer window where they totally mishandled the Alexander Isak situation and failed to land Eddie Howe’s top targets when not moving quickly/dynamic enough. Then of the six signings that were eventually made, only one of them signed in time to have a pre-season with NUFC.
