On Friday morning we have seen Eddie Howe open up on his Newcastle United future.
A poor choice of loose words from CEO David Hopkinson had created headlines in recent weeks, with media and fans speculating that the Newcastle United owners could look to change their manager in the summer.
Earlier today, an exclusive from The Times reported that the Newcastle United hierarchy had moved to clarify those loose comments from Hopkinson.
The Newcastle United CEO speaking to Eddie Howe to explain that neither he nor the club’s owners have any plans to remove him, that Howe is the one they are relying on still, as we move towards the 2026/27 season kicking off in August.
Now Eddie Howe himself has opened up about his Newcastle United future.
The United boss asked about it during his pre-Palace press conference: “I am absolutely one hundred per cent committed to the job. That commitment has never wavered from my side. I have been working during the break to make sure we come back a stronger team. I think in this day and age it is very difficult to look too far into the long-term. I can only look to these seven games and make sure that we perform at our very best level and make sure that the players are ready for these games. We go right to the end of the season…it has been an incredible season in the sense…we worked out that we handed trained with twenty players since August. Which is…I have never said that before during a season. So the first time we have gone back to big numbers in training, it has been a really refreshing couple of sessions for us and it has been really enjoyable. So let’s try and finish the season well, which is what everybody wants to do.”
Seven matches of this current season remain.
Eddie Howe then specifically addressing his relationship with the Newcastle United hierarchy: “There has certainly been no fallings out, we are plotting to try and take the club forward in the smartest way possible. I have had really good support from both Ross Wilson and David Hopkinson. But certainly these seasons we have experienced previously, we are probably ahead of schedule.”
Eddie Howe and Newcastle United continue to battle against the odds, especially when it comes to finances.
Almost five years after the Newcastle United takeover, still no announcement on the essential far bigger capacity stadium, nor the state of the art training complex.
Without major infrastructure projects such as these, especially a brand new modern huge stadium, all but impossible for United to compete financially.
Eddie Howe adding: “Not all the forces are with us and we are going to have to act really smart and try to outperform the budget, to hit the levels that everyone wants. What do I need…? Just that, I need support. Good working relationships with the people around me…and I have that.”
