Chris Waddle has been talking about Bruno Guimaraes.

A lot of speculation regarding his future.

Bruno Guimaraes having been at Newcastle United for four and a half years now.

United fans having already seen Anthony Gordon join Barcelona and Sandro Tonali move to Tottenham.

So what is likely to happen with the Newcastle United captain?

Chris Waddle asked by 10Bet ‘Are you worried that Bruno Guimaraes’ World Cup performances will see him leave for a top European side?’

The NUFC star of the 1980s replying: “For a lot of players, a World Cup is a shop window. Years ago, they used to say if you have a good World Cup, you’ll get a lot of clubs after you. I think he’s done okay, though I wasn’t that impressed with Brazil, to be honest. He has a great engine, he’s tidy, and he keeps the ball well. I can see why he fits into a lot of teams. Going into that tournament, him and his agent will have known if he wants to leave Newcastle, and clubs will have been in touch with his agent after watching him.”

Chris Waddle going on to say: “I believe he has about two years left on his Newcastle contract, so he might be looking for a four-year contract somewhere else – probably the last biggest pay day of what is left in his career. Unless Newcastle upgrade his contract, you could see him leaving. I’m sure clubs are interested, but because he has two years left, Newcastle can demand a hefty price. That might stop a lot of clubs because they’ll question if he’s worth that much money. If Newcastle are looking for £50m or £60m, there are not going to be many clubs that will pay that for a player his age.”

I’m with Chris Waddle on this one, any club would be daft to pay £50m for Bruno Guimaraes, best if they stay well aware and he remains at Newcastle United!

Not sure where Chris Waddle gets his player valuations from but maybe he hasn’t heard about Elliot Anderson heading to Manchester City for £116m, or Sandro Tonali moving to Spurs for £100m.

Bruno Guimaraes a better player than either of these two and the Brazil international only two years younger than Tonali.

Bruno is in his prime at 28 and really looks after himself, is super fit, plus these days many top players able to keep on playing far longer at an elite level. At this World Cup we have seen the likes of Modric (he turns 41 in September), Messi (39) and Ronaldo (41).

Hopefully any interested clubs will now take Chris Waddle’s advice on Bruno Guimaraes (who is currently tied to Newcastle United for another three years, as NUFC can unilaterally trigger a third year on his deal which has two years to go) and stay well away.

The thought of Newcastle United selling their best player and leader for £50m or £60m would make zero sense, unless you are Chris Waddle of course.
