A decade after experiencing relegation with Newcastle United, Jamaal Lascelles has now gone through it again with Leicester City.
Tuesday night seeing the fate of the Foxes mathematically confirmed.
Back in 2016 it was Newcastle United dropping into the Championship as Leicester City won the Premier League.
Last night, Jamaal Lascelles played the full match as a 2-2 draw at home to Hull City saw Leicester drop into the third tier.
The Foxes had gone for some last ditch recruitment in the last transfer window to try and avoid the drop, former Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles amongst those arriving after the new year.
Lascelles moved to Leicester on 3 February 2026 to try and help save them from relegation.
However, in the 15 games that have followed since he signed, they have only managed one win.
Last night Jamaal Lascelles started his seventh game for Leicester City, his ninth appearance in all with also two sub appearances. A point wasn’t enough and Leicester fans are now facing League One football, having experienced in the last decade a Premier League title, an FA Cup trophy and reaching the last eight of the Champions League.
Leicester City have done a Sunderland. The Mackems went from the Premier League to League One in the space of two seasons (2016/17 and 2018/19). Now Leicester City have done the same.
Leicester City have won only 17 of their 82 league matches these past two seasons, six in the Premier League and now 11 so far in this Championship campaign. They ended up third bottom last season in the top tier and are currently second bottom of the second tier. You have to hand it to Sunderland though, who it will be very difficult for any team to match, in that they won only 13 of 84 league matches across the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, six in the Premier League when they finished rock bottom (in 2016/17) and then only seven in the Championship (in 2017/18) when they once again propped up all of the other clubs.
Whilst the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City appear able to avoid any points deductions, any real punishment, for their breaking of the rules and/or alleged breaking of the rules, Leicester City find themselves this season with their consecutive relegations guaranteed already due to a points deduction.
For overspending in recent years, Leicester City have been punished with a six points deduction. Without that, the Foxes would be now only one point from safety with two matches remaining.

Leicester City could do a lot worse than making Jamaal Lascelles captain for what will be a huge challenge next season.
