Sven Botman has undergone surgery.
Newcastle United revealing the news on Monday afternoon.
This follows the Dutch defender having been forced off the pitch on Sunday.
Sunderland striker Bryan Brobbey kicking Sven Botman in the face.
The official NUFC announcement detailing: ‘Newcastle United defender Sven Botman has undergone successful surgery on a facial fracture. Following concussion protocol, the Dutchman was substituted after suffering the injury during the second half of Sunday’s game against Sunderland at St. James’ Park.’
A cruel blow to the central defender, who has had more than his fair share of injury issues.
The club statement going on to say: ‘Sven is not expected to be sidelined for an extended period and hopes to be available again during the closing weeks of the season. Everybody at the club wishes Sven a swift recovery.’
