Kieron Dyer set to be announced in first job as a manager

Kieron Dyer is set to be unveiled in his first job as a football manager.

Talksport have revealed that the former Newcastle United and England midfielder will become the new Southend United boss.

Kieron Dyer a first team coach at League Two Chesterfield who finished the 2025/26 season in sixth place, losing out in the promotion play-offs.

Southend United did the same in the National League

They ended up sixth in the fifth tier (National League) but lost in the play-offs to Scunthorpe United and failed to climb into League Two.

Southend United sacked Kevin Maher less than three weeks ago, despite winning the FA Trophy.

On 20 May the BBC reporting: ‘Kevin Maher has been left “absolutely devastated” by his sacking from Southend United, the BBC understands. The club legend was relieved of his duties within 48 hours of leading the Shrimpers to FA Trophy glory on Sunday, defeating Wealdstone on penalties.
