‘He grew a lot since I last saw him on the pitch…’ Thomas Tuchel talks up Newcastle United star

Thomas Tuchel is set to start Lewis Hall for the first time since he became England manager.

The Newcastle United star picked up two England caps under Lee Carsley but Lewis Hall then having injury issues at key times, meaning he has missed get togethers under Thomas Tuchel.

Now though Lewis Hall making this important March 2026 England squad with the World Cup finals now only two and a half months away.

The United left-back got the final 20 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Uruguay but now appears set to start against Japan on Tuesday night at Wembley.

Thomas Tuchel happy to renew his acquaintance: “Lewis Hall, I know from Chelsea. He came to our training as a young boy from the Academy. Lewis has had a very good season, since he has been regularly starting for Newcastle. He has had a very good season individually in the Champions League campaign.”

Lewis Hall has elite ability and so important in a modern day full-back, his levels when going forward are incredible.

Thomas Tuchel adding: “He plays at a very high level and interesting to see him. He grew a lot since I last saw him on the pitch and I am happy to welcome him back.”

Aaron Ramsdale, Fikayo Tomori, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, John Stones, Adam Wharton, Noni Madueke, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have all now left the England get together.

This means the 27 players below are preparing for the Japan match, including five from Newcastle United – Dan Burn, Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall and Harvey Barnes.
