Aaron Ramsdale signed for Newcastle United on 2 August 2025.
Eddie Howe had once again wanted to sign James Trafford but the Newcastle United hierarchy failed to get the signing over the line.
Needing competition for Nick Pope ahead of the 2025/26 season, Aaron Ramsdale signed on loan for a year.
Eddie Howe had signed Ramsdale for Bournemouth back in the day and worked with him, so he knew what kind of character he was bringing into St James’ Park.
Aaron Ramsdale ended up playing in 23 of the 58 Newcastle United matches across the four competitions in 2025/26.
Now the Southampton goalkeeper has sent a message to the Newcastle United fans and the club.
Aaron Ramsdale issuing this personal statement regarding NUFC alongside a highlights reel on his social media: “As pre-season begins I want to take the time to thank Newcastle United and everyone associated with the football club for the honour and responsibility of playing for your football club. Thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Toon with lots of learning too! The passion you fans have for the football club I have nothing but respect for and thank you for supporting me along the way. Big love to the boys man! What a group we had, top people, so many laughs, love you all.”
Aaron Ramsdale played in 12 Premier League matches with Newcastle United, four times in the Champions League, four times in the League Cup three FA Cup appearances for NUFC.
I think he did pretty well in his one year loan spell and always gave his best.
At the same time, I don’t think Aaron Ramsdale did enough to convince Newcastle United fans that he was the one t be signed permanently and become number one for the 2026/27 season.
It looks set to be all change in the goalkeeping department with John Ruddy having also left, as well as Aaron Ramsdale. France Under 21 international Ewen Jaouen has arrived in a £24m deal and the club are reported to be trying to sign James Trafford (again!) or Carl Rushworth to be the new number one, with Nick Pope then expected to leave.
