Sunday at Selhurst ends Crystal Palace 0 Newcastle United 2.
A huge result for Matthias Jaissle and his players.
A massive performance from this Newcastle United team.
The wind causing issues for both teams but the conditions clearly favouring Crystal Palace in the opening half.
It was an atrocious watch with next to no goalmouth action at either end but this gutsy first 45 gave United the platform for what was to come.
Newcastle United looked like a different side when they came back out and blew Crystal Palace away.
Murphy had been the worst player on the pitch for me but then out of nowhere produced one of ‘those’ crosses that created so many goals for the likes of Alexander Isak, this time a superbly timed run seeing William Osula volley home less than two minutes into the restart.
Joelinton then fed Joe Willock and a top notch finish into the far bottom corner surely made sure of the points, only for one of those offside by a toenail/shoulder/shadow to see VAR deny it.
It only delayed the inevitable though as a now rampant United made it two up before the hour mark. A great team move and a trademark Amar Dedic low cross pulled back for Harvey Barnes to sweep home.
Newcastle could and should have added more but then as we moved into the final twenty or so minutes it saw a conscious move of making sure of the three points AND a first Premier League clean sheet since the opening away game of the season at Spurs.
Palace huffed and puffed but United stood firm. Playing for both the manager and the fans (and themselves), they managed the game pretty well and put in some great challenges and a few confident saves from Hornicek.
Hopefully a turning of the corner and having players back from injury clearly a massive factor, both in team selection and strength on the bench.
A hat-trick of wins in London for Matthias Jaissle in all competitions this season and Newcastle United up to seventh in the Premier League (where they will stay if Sunderland defeat Leeds), our world may have a touch of wind but it is looking a lot brighter than a couple of hours ago.
