Bruno Guimaraes has now told Newcastle United that he wants to leave the club and join Arsenal.
This news broken by the very reliable David Ornstein on Wednesday.
The man from The Athletic reporting: “Bruno Guimaraes has informed Newcastle United of his wish to leave St James’ Park and join Arsenal.”
This news comes only days after Brazil exited the 2026 World Cup finals with defeat to Norway.
Whilst Bruno Guimaraes was away on World Cup business there had been various media claims of the Gunners trying to buy the Newcastle United captain.
It was easy to dismiss them though as pure fantasy and never going to happen, with Arsenal reportedly trying to buy Bruno with ridiculous lowball offers of £60m or less.
Now David Ornstein states in his exclusive today that: ‘The Premier League champions are stepping up their pursuit of the 28-year-old and have indicated a willingness to pay up to £60million for the midfielder. The Athletic reported in June that Arsenal had a verbal offer — worth below £60m — rebuffed. Newcastle insisted at the time that they would not entertain bids for Guimaraes. There has been no club-to-club contact so far and the north-east side are currently maintaining that position.’
Whatever else you make of this news, this report, the idea of Newcastle United selling Bruno Guimaraes for £60m would be astonishing. So if indeed a transfer did happen, Arsenal aren’t going to steal him away for that kind of figure.
